Tori moved to LA in her late teen years to become a pop singer. This was the beginning of an aspiring career. Her move to LA landed her in a band called "Y Kant Tori Read" which was a play on words that referred to her previous expulsion from Peabody. The band included other now famous artists including Matt Sorum, Steve Farris, and Vinny Coliauta to name a few. Unfortunately their first album was also the last because it was a complete failure.
Tori refused to let the bands failure stop her from pursuing her career and kept on working hard to succeed in the music business. She went from singing pop metal to spare, haunting, semi confessional piano ballads. Tori continued to persevere in writing her own songs and eventually a tape of these reached Atlantic Records co-chairman Doug Morris. Doug felt that she definitely had talent but she wasn't what the average American FM listener was looking for. He then decided to send her to the UK where he thought she would get a better reception. Tori followed Doug's advice and moved to London in 1991 to start playing small-scale gigs around the capital.
In October of 1991 Tori released her hit single "Me And A Gun," which tackled the emotive and disturbing topic of her rape by an armed "fan". The song gained positive reviews throughout both the public and the media. Both the concerts and the EP (early production) sold well. Tori went on to record her first album as a singer/songwriter in January of 1992 called "Little Earthquakes". « mai multe referate din Muzica
