Steelcase has a present workforce of 80 employees and a turnover of NOK 144 million. The market for in-house telephone exchanges disappeared with the launch of digital technology in the late 1980s. This technology required less space and the production of in-house telephone exchanges was moved away from Norway.

Steel lockers for the central unit of all communication cables within the so-called intelligent buildings partly compensated for the lost income of in-house exchange boxes. Still in 2009, the workshop products represented the largest product group reaching a turnover of NOK 84 million. The other group consists of so-called distribution products such as thin steel cabinets where Steelcase is a supplier of finished products.

Like much of the other Norwegian industry, Steelcase had a very tough period in the late 1980s. The company went through a period of restructuring that in many ways can be characterized as successful. As a sub-contractor to mainly the local industry, the workshop is to a great extent dependent on the development in the industry. The workshop does not have a separate marketing or sales department.
