Although this is an example of how interrelated individual lives can be in the globalization context, it gives valuable insights on the way states are linked together and the international relations are developing now. 1. Defining Globalization
Globalization is conceptualized as a process of linkage and interdependence between territories. A common threat running through most of the views on globalization is the recognition of the significance of the dramatic reduction in the tyranny of distance, a world in which time-space has shrunk dramatically as a result of technological innovations in transport and communications, especially information technologies.
Thus shrinking of the world stems from the increase in range, speed and intensity of social interaction and communication.
Globalization is a hotly contested notion, often reflecting the different disciplinary or cultural perspectives of the proponents of the concept. This is particularly reflected in terms of perspectives on the relationship between the local, the national and the global and the degree to which national states are seen as having been hollowed out.
There are many possible definitions of globalization.
One is that saying that globalization is a process by which places and institutions become integrated into a system that has global dimensions and from a geographical perspective two fundamental aspects of the process are scale enlargement in the spatial basis of organizations and institutions and increasing levels and intensity of interconnection across international boundaries. Globalization is a process which refers both to the compression of the world and the intensification of consciousness of the world as a whole.
